We've all felt the decision fatigue of picking an outfit—staring at a closet full of clothes yet feeling like we have nothing to wear. Driven by trends, the ambition to keep up a current wardrobe is embedded in our lifestyle and the fashion industry, leading to a habit of over-buying and under-wearing.

That's why we've created a guide to curating your closet and dressing with less, drawing from the philosophy of the capsule wardrobe. Streamlining down and investing in your most-loved and most-worn: the classic pieces reached for again and again, outliving time and trends.

The goal isn't to be constrictive, but to develop a better relationship with your wardrobe—feeling confident in all your clothes, how they look, and the outfits they produce.

So here’s to less clutter, less decision fatigue, and more conscious consumption. Let's get started.

Critically sort through your clothing and shoes, noting the pieces you reach for most. Donate, upcycle or gift forward the things you don't absolutely love—especially those you can’t remember the last time you’ve worn. While you're at it, indicate any gaps in your wardrobe: versatile staples that would help tie together your other pieces, simplifying everyday dressing.

Of your most worn pieces, what silhouettes, colours, and materials do you see the most? These create a framework for what clothing and accessories work best for you.

Neutral colours and classic pieces like a

will go a long way, but no need to stray away from brighter shades or patterns if they're what you love wearing most. Your colour palette and core pieces are totally up to you and your style.

Based on your personal style patterns, pick out around 10 pieces per season to make up your seasonal capsule wardrobe, and to be stored when out of season. It doesn't have to be this set number, use this as a benchmark and see what makes the most sense with your clothes and lifestyle. Do the same exercise with your shoes and accessories, prioritizing pieces you can wear year-round.

Avoid a bad fit that makes you feel self-conscious in your own body or poor fabrics that feel rough on your skin. If you feel uncomfortable, you won’t wear it and don’t need it.

With the prevalence of fast fashion, it's easy to be swayed by cheap, trendy items. When it comes to capsule dressing, let function, fit, and quality guide you, not price. The higher quality a piece is, the more you're likely to care for it—meaning it'll have a longer life and be worn more.

Investing in new clothes isn't a bad thing, but make sure to purchase from brands and new items you believe in, and that fit your style patterns above.
